Thanx in advance.

If Revere MA. isn't too far for ya, check out www.all-nu.com they do great work. I had my seat re-done, lowered, and gel pad installed, and had the back rest made wider and thicker, for the passenger. The best investment in the bike to date.

My stock seat really gives me a pain in the tail bone after bout 80 miles.
But I really like the 2 tone stock.

O - K, if you call ask for Joe, he Specializes in "tail-bone" modifications, in fact that's what got him into doing "Custom" bike seats. Not just good looking designs and upholstery but truly functional seat design.AND he can do some mods and retain the original cover if that's what ya want. I had mine completely redone, and the original cover was perfect, he removed it without destroying it so I can use it on another seat, or if at some time decide to restore the ride back to original. I already found another seat pan in good shape with totally a trashed cover.

Tofeather has a Yamaha, so I'm guessing that would be a big 10-4.

Hey man!

Sounds like you need a thick slice of gel pie!! If your the clever type you can do an insert your self. Pull the back half of the seat pan staples out (its probably a plastic pan)and roll the vinyl forward. (If you leave some of the vinyl stapled on it will be easier to replace it exactly). Get a 3/4 piece of gel enough for the whole seat or just the back half. (check Ebay)If you do the back half cut the same amount and shape of the foam out so that the get fits right in for the same fit. You can use a kitchen electric knife or a hand saw. a Little adhesive on the back of the gel so it wont slip, roll back the vinyl and staple up. You'll notice a big difference on the longer rides. I do mostly the bare bones seats now but have done lots of inserts over the years. good luck!! stevo.......

Thanx everyone.

Hey Stevo, Could it be that simple? Ive got a peice of 17"x12" piece of waffle gel 2" thick ( seat top pad ). would I replace the whole thing or leave some of the stiff foam for support.

Any advice is appreciated.

He makes it sound easy, ya do need a powered staple gun to staple bike seats. Otherwise, sounds like a plan.

An Air stapler sure makes it easy, but when I first started I just used what I had. A regular hand stapler. If its plastic, if its steel then ya got drill and rivet. The hard part just starting out will be geting that gel in the right shape. gel likes to stay just the way it is. Its best to have it worked into the foam you already have. But give it a go take your time look at it a while, and whats the worst that can happen it don't come out right and you put your old foam back on and recover it. just don't cut up your vinyl. A simple solution could be some real sheep skin on top off the seat. Looks kool on bikes like yours and its like riding a sofa let me know how ya make out, or send me an email if ya get stuck. stevo.........

Hi tofeather!

Yes infact about 1/2 of the seats I have done in 06 they would ship me there solo seat and I would strip of the old cover shape the foam to my seat style and recover it with the tooled leather. I can't just send the cover though, because it takes some doing to get it on the pan correctly. By shipping me the seat it saves about $45 off the end price. Using your seat with lacing and a caved theme runs around $150. On my pans about $190,add paint or spots, spikes around $210-2.15. I have also been adding two D-rings under the back on each side of the mount for tieing off a jacket ect. I am working on my own fiberglass pans that I have been testing on how well they hold up in heavy use. Take care. stevo

Stevo, Do you make a pattern and sew everything yourself? Hats off to you. I tried to do that with my Venture a couple of years ago. It wasn't pretty. Of course, I was missing part of the seat from rips and tears. I was going to order a new seat cover from The Old Bike Barn this year, but I sold the bike. My Virago has a Corbin seat on it and it has developed a small tear. Perhaps we can work something out this winter.

All of my work is free handed and then transfered to 6oz leather, then tooled in hand painted or what ever. All lace work or stitching is either hand done or by my machines,in the case of vinyl I chaulk out flames and then stitch in a thin layer of foam underneath to raise the design. And ya the winter is the best time. We are heading into two wheeling season and my shop time really gets limited. Keep in touch.. Thanks.. stevo..

Thanks stevo, I'll see my friend over the weekend, He might have me bring the seat to you as he is very busy with auto body and paint bus. He's in Derry which is just a short jaunt from Hudson. I like that "D" ring idea, I have a thick sheepskin for extra long rides, and those would be great to tie it down. I'm using a thin bungee now, hooking it into whereever I can. Later, Oh yeah, where in Chelmsford are ya :?: :?:

O - K, that's fine. I'm in no rush. I'm in the process of setting up a "studio" where I live, I did pinstriping from the late 50's into the mid 90's and I'm getting back into it, as a part time thing. I work in a "high tech" company in North Londonderry, second shift. Have a good weekend, thanks for your reply.

I injured my right hand, but I'm a Lefftee", but I need my right for balance and Bridgeing my left. I did this work many years ago, and my last stripes were on my bike a few years ago. I'm setting up a "STUDIO". in my apt., climate control, and clean. Probably the best room in the place.
Still researching the "New Paints" which are very $$$$$$$$. I used to use Sign Enamels, and will practice with them and use them for most of my work. Every friday I go out that way and would like to drop off my seat for some minor work, and some questions. Let me know what works for you. Thanx, jim.

Note: the last time I saw Stevo was @ Lowell Bike Nite, back in '08. His bike is really awesome, it's almost completely covered in leather.
