Re: Bobber project

Pipes turn blue anyway, but the "Raw" look probably won't go well with the rest of the high quality work that's already been done.

Re: Bobber project

Tofeather, I'm not doing raw. Everything will be coated some how some way in a gun color of some sort unless you mean the engine covers I plan to media blast and leave raw?

Found a couple of chain belts of bullets I could not pass up for the project and yesterday I took the time to get one of them placed on my tank.
.308 bullets will fit in them perfectly so I'll make up enough with black painted tips (indicating armor piercing) and press them in.
BTW these are removeable. I just used steel welded on tabs between the chain clips that hold the entire chain in place but can be taken off but not easily.

Re: Bobber project

Thanks All. Little by little it comes along. I plan to lace the front wheel tomorrow with the new brass spokes. I'll post a pic afterwards. Going to get it professionally trued though. I'm just not comfortable doing that part. :ban_027:

Re: Bobber project

Thanks, I love it and the back wheel will look just as good too but with a gun blue hub and brake drum.
You just dont see realy brass plated spokes. Only one company in the country I found who would do them.

8-) , VERY 8-) . Hope ya put plenty of wax on them, brass looks great but will tarnish. Maybe they were clear-coated.

Re: Bobber project

Nope I want the natural aged tarnished look on the over all brass finished parts. Reminder that it aint going to be out in the weather much.

Re: Bobber project

Well I figure if I polish all the brass and then let tarnish / patina naturally it should be a few years at least till it's bad enough to worry about and beings it's a show bike it wont see much weather either. bright brass is great but being old artillery stuff it would be better looking it's age too.
Just my thinking about it.

and thanks All. I really hope it's done before Iam...lol

Re: Bobber project

Well I'm going to be getting back at this soon again. Need to finish up truing the front wheel and get on the rear one and also get my motor/tranny back to the shop too. I'm thinking about adding a really nice non-firing replica colt 1911 and US military holster to the theme too?
