Needed used entry level bike.

I have a friend that just purchased a very clean low mileage fat boy. He never rode a bike before and is looking for a smaller bike to get used to before he ventures out. He is taking a riders course in May and oh his wife is smoking hot and I think we have them convinced to join us for Bear Bones this year.
Anything you can recommend is appreciated. I want him to get used to something comfortable.

As far as bikes go, for starters he should look at bikes around 450 c.c.s, even down to 250. Stay away from older 4 cylinder bikes, they tend to be difficult to tune due to 4 carbs. A paralell twin like Honda Rebel, or the older Kawasaki 450 singles were great starter bikes that are fairly capable on the highway. There's also a Yamahe 250 V-Twin that a very nice beginner bike, plus looks a lot better than some of the other small bikes. Some guys even prefer a scrambler type bike that's set up for road, ( lights, etc ) then keep it for off road fun. Just tell him if he see's a hotty wearing those Daisy Duke cut-offs to keep his eyes on the ROAD.
